Gonzaga wins with rally in 10th inning

Gonzaga scored twice in the top of the 10th inning and beat Santa Clara (10-33, 0-19) 6-4 in the opener of a three-game West Coast Conference baseball series Friday in Santa Clara, Calif.

Cory LeBrun, Clayton Eslick and Alex Bonczyk all had run-scoring hits in the eighth to get the Bulldogs (29-14-1, 16-6) back in the game.

• Oregon (35-11, 17-5) scored two unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning and beat Washington State (20-21, 7-12) 5-3 in a Pac-12 Conference game in Pullman.

• Robert Pehl drove in five runs and Washington (15-28, 7-12) had 30 hits in a 23-1 rout of defending champion Arizona (28-16, 9-10) in a Pac-12 game in Tucson, Ariz.

Track and field

Jessica Mildes, Emily Flynn and Kevin Stanley all won events to guide Community Colleges of Spokane on the first day of the Pacific Twilight Invitational in Forest Grove, Ore.

Mildes won the 5,000-meter run in 17 minutes, 13.74 seconds. Flynn was first in the women’s hammer throw with a toss of 149 feet, 6 inches and Stanley won the men’s hammer throw (166-11).

• Gonzaga’s Lauren Bergam finished fourth in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Oregon Twilight meet in Eugene.

In the men’s event, GU’s Nick Roche was fifth and Patrick Richie was seventh.

Softball

Lindsey Walchli hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh and Community Colleges of Spokane (22-16, 16-8) stormed back to beat Columbia Basin (22-18, 14-11) 7-6 in the nightcap to salvage a split in an NWAACC doubleheader at Spokane Falls Community College. The Sasquatch fell 10-7 in the opener.

• Marissa Mendenhall’s double off the left-field field fence in the bottom of the seventh scored Jackie Sweet and gave Utah (24-27, 7-15) a 2-1 win over Washington (34-14, 12-7) in the opener of a three-game Pac-12 Conference series in Salt Lake City.
