Obituary: Senger, John

SENGER, John (Age 92) Died May 4, 2013 in Spokane, WA.

He was born in Linton, ND on January 8, 1921, and moved to Spokane at the end of WWII where he met Frieda, his wife of 67 years who survives him.

He served in Headquarters Battalion of the Second Marine Division; was a member of the Eagles Lodge, VFW and the Holy Names Society at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

He retired from Carnation Co. to enjoy a long life of gardening, camping, fishing and following any San Francisco team.

He loved to tinker and could make something from nothing.

He built many folk art creations and Adirondack chairs, benches and swings for his family to enjoy.

He is also survived by his children; Carol (Jim) McConnell, Larry, Patti (Ted) Aked, and John E., all of Spokane; grandchildren Jacob (Nicole), Ann (Darin), Kim (Ted), Tim, Melissa (Adam), and John H.; great-grandchildren Ava and Sophie, Eliza and Levi, Tilly, Carsten and Dylan, and Twyla; brother Leo Gleich; and sisters Florence Zarr and Anna Duttenefner.

He is preceded in death by his mother Katherine Gleich, brother Peter Kuntz and sister Marion Keller.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Friday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m. with the Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. We wish to thank his new family at Avalon for their loving care of both Jim and Frieda.
