CCS, Omelia settle for seconds

Community Colleges of Spokane and its freshman leader, Evan Omelia, came up just short in the Southwestern Oregon Invitational golf tournament that wound up Monday at Bandon, Ore.

CCS failed to win a men’s title for the first time in 10 tournaments this year, bested 600-601 by Skagit Valley.

Omelia had to settle for second after losing a one-hole playoff to Broc Johnson of Green River after tying for two-round medalist honors at 141. CCS’ Kurt Simmons was third at 144.

The CCS women were fourth at 536 behind winner Columbia Basin’s 496.

Freshman Brigid Rypien (North Central) led the Sasquatch with a 176.
