Sasquatch men second, women third

The Community Colleges of Spokane men are in second place and the women in third place after the first day of the NWAACC Track and Field Championships at Spokane Falls Community College.

Lane Community College leads both team competitions. The Lane men earned 99 points Monday, followed by CCS’ 60. The Lane women have 93.50 points, followed by Clackamas Community College (78) and CCS (41.50).

For the Sasquatch men, Daniel Issa won the 10,000 meters in 33 minutes, 8.2 seconds. Wes Bailey won the long jump with a mark of 7.27 meters, and Nate Van Tuinen was third at 6.91. Burran Bates won the discus with a throw of 49.83 meters. Kevin Stanley won the hammer throw with a mark of 53.17 meters.

For the CCS women, Alexa Adams tied for second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.31 meters. Amanda Youngers finished third in the javelin throw (40.63 meters) and the shot put (12.64 meters).

Golf

The CCS men finished third and the women fifth at the season-ending NWAACC Golf Championships in Walla Walla.

The Sasquatch men had a two-round total of 599, 10 strokes behind champion Southwestern Oregon CC. The women finished at 536, 37 strokes behind first-place Bellevue College.

Cooper Wright was the top finisher for the CCS men, with his 147 good for a tie for fourth place. CCS’ Kurt Simmons shot a 150 and tied for ninth place. Broc Johnson of Green River CC was the medalist with a 140.

For the women, Cindy Pitkin was CCS’ top finisher with a 175, tied for 10th place. Bellevue’s Suchada Anusuriya was a medalist with a 158.

Baseball

A bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning scored Adam Nelubowich and gave Washington State (22-30) a 1-0 nonconference win over Portland in Pasco. Richie Ochoa (2-0) threw one pitch to record the final out of the eighth to earn the victory.
