Obituary: Jones, John Thomas

Age 66

JONES, John Thomas Born on November 1, 1946 in Wallace, Idaho to Norval R. Jones and Dorothy Jones.

He grew up in Spokane.

John passed away suddenly at age 66 in Tacoma on December 13, 2012.

He is survived by his siblings Norval (Sandy) Jones, Dorcas, Meredith Stewart, Susan Shiplett, Jack, and Jean Toutant, Mike and 11 dearly loved nieces and nephews and their families.

He is also survived by his longtime best friend and companion of 23 years, Gloria Mitchell, whose daughters and their spouses became John’s 2nd family.

John was an “adopted” grandfather to four.

He was a member of the United States Air Force Pipe Band in the mid 1960s, the most versatile and travelled piping organization in the world.

A highlight of his USAF Pipe Band career was playing at President John F. Kennedy’s funeral.

John worked in Seattle in the freight forwarding industry for more than 35 years, eventually owning his own company in Tacoma.

At John’s request, there will be no memorial, a family memorial will be held this summer.
