Obituary: Gerard, Michael George “Mike”

Age 76

GERARD, Michael George “Mike” (Age 76) Passed away in his Spokane Valley home October 24, 2013.

He is survived by the love of his life for 54 years Sharon, his children Paul Gerard, (Melissa), Debbie Lux, Trish Smith, (David), Scott Gerard, (Vicki).

Grandchildren, Amy Mckee, (Ben), Brian Gerard, Michael Judkins, Heather Terpko, Mathew and Nathan Hanson, Samantha McPhedran, (Jason), Michele Hall, Lynz and Stacie Smith, 10 great-grandchildren including Brayden and Brooklyn, who he helped watch almost daily.

He is also survived by his two sisters, Pat Kruger and Anna Brushel, both from Wisconsin.

Mike was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to George and Mildred Gerard, May 16, 1937.

He served in the Air Force, at the age of 19, toward the end of the Korean War.

While stationed in Spokane, he met Sharon roller skating.

They married in 1959.

After the service Mike was employed by several companies but ended up working for Columbia Lighting for 31 years and retired in 1997.

He was a local volunteer fire fighter in Fairfield, Washington and then for a S.C.O.P.E.

office, after he moved to the Spokane Valley.

He was known as a good friend to many people but spent most of his life helping his children and grandchildren.

To his family, Mike was a Scout Troop Leader, the family chauffeur, a camping-fishing-hunting guru, the best big-wheeler handyman around, a snow fort architect, a math genius, a school mouse trap engineer, and, our hero.

He was a true family man and will be greatly missed by all.

The family will have a private service at a later date.
