Playoff berths on the line

It’s hard to believe that we’ve reached the final week of regular-season football in the Great Northern League, and there’s more clarity in what could transpire regarding playoff berths than in recent years.

In games Friday, co-leader East Valley (6-2, 4-1), which is in the playoffs no matter what, goes to Deer Park (3-6, 2-3), Clarkston (1-8, 0-5) visits Cheney (6-3, 2-3) and Colville (6-3, 3-2) travels to co-leader Pullman (5-3, 4-1). Each game kicks off at 7.

There are four possible scenarios:

• If EV and Pullman win, both advance to the playoffs and the Knights receive the top seed based on beating the Greyhounds.

• If Pullman wins and EV loses, Pullman gets the top seed and the Knights take the second seed based on beating Colville.

• If Colville wins, the Indians receive the second berth.

• If EV and Pullman lose creating a three-way tie, EV gets the top seed because it beat the other two teams and Colville gets the second berth.

Last year, Colville shocked then league-leading Pullman.
