Porter helps NIC to title
North Idaho College had three of the low seven scorers and pulled to a 12-stroke victory in the Whitworth Men’s Invitational golf tournament that wound up a two-day run Monday at Manito Golf & Country Club.
Michael Porter led the Cardinals with a 2-over-par 144 (69-75) to tie for second, two strokes back of medalist Dustin Hegge of Pacific Lutheran.
Angus Montgomery (147) was fifth and Tanner Martin (148) tied for sixth to lead NIC to a 587 team score. PLU was second at 599.
Host Whitworth placed fourth at 606, led by sophomores Andrew Dodge and Tyler McQuilkin, who tied for eighth at 150. Dodge’s 2-under 69 was the lowest score of Monday’s final round.
