Colville tops Cheney, now tied for first

Aubrey Buckner racked up 25 kills and two blocks and Hannah Smith dished out a career-high 42 assists as Colville cruised past Cheney in Great Northern League volleyball action Tuesday at Colville.

Scores were 25-18, 25-10, 21-25 and 25-11.

The win moved the Indians (5-2, 5-2) into a three-way tie atop the GNL standings with Cheney (6-3, 5-2) and East Valley (5-4, 5-2).

Ashley Seiler had 23 kills for the Blackhawks, who have lost two of their last three league matches.

East Valley def. West Valley: Jordan Phelan tallied nine kills and nine digs, and Brooklynn Juris recorded three aces and ten digs as the Knights cruised to a GNL win over the visiting Eagles (0-8, 0-7). Scores were 25-15, 25-9 and 25-18.

Clarkston def. Pullman: Tori Zeimantz tallied nine kills and Santana Jose recorded four aces and 18 digs as the Bantams (3-4, 3-4) topped the Greyhounds (4-6, 4-3) 22-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-19 in a GNL match in Pullman. Katie Travis led the Greyhounds with eight kills and four blocks. Jolene Herzog had 34 assists and Rachel Dinsmore added 18 digs for Pullman.

Lewiston def. Post Falls: Emilee Schlader had 16 kills and Klaree Hobart added 13 digs, three aces and a block as the Bengals (8-1, 6-0) dumped the Trojans (1-10, 0-4) in an Inland Empire League 5A match in Post Falls. Scores were 25-9, 25-11 and 25-17.

Kellogg def. Timberlake: Kelsey Carter and Andee Wendt both had eight kills and Marley Chambers added nine digs as the Wildcats swept the Tigers in an Intermountain League match at Spirit Lake. Scores were 25-19, 25-10 and 25-17. Matraca Rocheleau had four kills and seven assists, for Timberlake.

Priest River def. St. Maries: Karly Douglas had 33 assists and two aces to guide the Spartans to a 25-21, 20-25, 25-15, 25-19 IML win over the host Lumberjacks.

Sandpoint 2, Moscow 0: Jeremiah Gagnon and Matthew Burgstahler scored early in the second half to lead the Bulldogs (11-2-2, 4-0) past the host Bears (4-6-1, 1-2) in an Inland Empire League 4A contest.

Bonners Ferry 6, Priest River 0: Steffan Robles scored two first-half goals, both coming on assists from Jake Tremble, and the Badgers (7-7-1, 6-0) blanked the Spartans (1-7, 1-5) in an Intermountain League contest at Priest River. Jesus Mendez added a pair of second-half goals for Bonners Ferry. Tremble also scored in the second half and the Badgers benefited from an own goal. Bonners Ferry held a 16-2 advantage in shots.

Girls soccer

Clarkston 1, Pullman 0: Brooke Morrow scored a minute into overtime to lead the Bantams (7-3, 5-3) to a Great Northern League win over the host Greyhounds (5-4-1, 4-4). Myckel Tenwick had the clean sheet in net for the Bantams. Pullman keeper Becca Wickard made four saves.

Colville 2, Cheney 1: The Indians (4-6, 3-4) erased a first-half deficit and beat the visiting Blackhawks (4-7, 3-5) in a GNL match. Colville’s Tora Luu scored the tying goal early in the second half and sister Malia Luu netted the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute. Amanda Denny gave Cheney a 1-0 lead with a 44th-minute goal.

East Valley 1, West Valley 0: Alex Rankin’s goal in the 79th minute broke a scoreless tie and gave the Knights (6-3, 6-2) a shutout over the visiting Eagles (9-2, 6-2). Rankin’s goal came on a direct kick from 26 yards out. The Knights’ Kari Bromley recorded eight saves in goal to earn the clean sheet.
