NFL goes to Mars for Super Bowl show

From Wire Reports

Grammy-winner Bruno Mars will perform at halftime of the Super Bowl.

The NFL made the announcement ahead of the kickoff of games on Sunday.

The league’s championship game will be played Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Mars, 27, is one of pop music’s top acts, with several No. 1 hits including his most recent, “When I Was Your Man.”

Lee settles ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ suit

“To Kill a Mockingbird” author Harper Lee has settled a New York lawsuit against two of the defendants she sued in May to resecure the copyright to her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.

A court filing Friday in federal court in Manhattan said Lee’s lawsuit against defendants Leigh Ann Winick and Gerald Posner has been dismissed. A lawyer for the two said a settlement with the remaining defendants is likely to be reached this week.

Attorney Vincent Carissimi wouldn’t disclose the terms of the settlement. The 87-year-old author sued her former literary agent’s son-in-law, Samuel Pinkus; companies he allegedly created; and alleged associates of his. She claimed they had failed to protect the book’s copyright.

Security halts Prince Andrew at palace

You might forgive Britain’s royal protection unit for being a little jittery.

Two days after an intruder was discovered prowling around Buckingham Palace, police confronted Prince Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth II, in the royal residence’s garden and demanded he identify himself.

London’s Metropolitan Police said in an email Sunday that they had apologized to Andrew, also known as the Duke of York, and the royal responded with a touch of humor.

“I am grateful for their apology and look forward to a safe walk in the garden in the future,” he said in a statement.

Wednesday’s embarrassing mix-up with the duke followed an even more embarrassing security breach Monday, when an intruder was arrested after having scaled the fence around the palace. He and an alleged accomplice were arrested on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, respectively.
