In brief: Inslee hosting ‘Twitter Town Hall’

OLYMPIA – Washington residents with an idea about improving government or a question for Gov. Jay Inslee have a chance to present it this morning – if they have a Twitter account and can keep it relatively short.

After announcing Results Washington, his plan to make state government more efficient, Inslee is hosting a one-hour “Twitter Town Hall” on improving government starting at 10 a.m. 

People can tweet their questions to Inslee and his management team, who will try to answer them in Twitter’s 140-character limit. Answers that take more explanation will be posted on the results.wa.gov website next week.

Motorcycle crash victim identified

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim in a fatal motorcycle accident Tuesday afternoon.

Michael P. Lovas, 66, was riding a motorcycle when he collided with a truck on Trent Avenue and Mission Avenue at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Both drivers’ vehicles flipped. They were both taken to the hospital, Lovas with life-threatening injuries.

Lovas later died as a result of massive blood loss due to blunt impact, according to the medical examiner.

Spokane Police Department Major Crimes detectives from the Traffic Unit are investigating.

Man charged with indecent exposure

A registered sex offender may have celebrated his “new marriage” to Jesus on a Spokane street, but he’s honeymooning in Spokane County Jail.

Three witnesses reported they saw William M. Ogan, 31, masturbating on the street at 2718 E. 57th Ave. on Sunday, according to a police report. Ogan explained to an officer who came to arrest him that he was “working for Jehovah” and “spreading God’s word,” according to the report.

Ogan added it was his “wedding day” and he was celebrating his “new marriage” to God, police said.

Ogan told the officer he was showing women his sexual prowess to teach them Jehovah’s word by telling them about sex.

Ogan has a prior conviction of voyeurism and is a registered sex offender, according to the report.

Ogan made his first appearance in Superior Court on Wednesday, where his bond was set at $30,000. He faces three counts of indecent exposure.

Alleged molester still on the run

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office reminded the community Tuesday that a man accused of molesting a little girl is still at large, two years after the original incident.

The Sheriff’s Office originally issued a warrant for Carlos Unup, the 48-year-old man believed to have had sexual contact with a 6-year-old girl, in 2011, according to a news release. The original investigation stemmed from an incident on Aug. 11, 2011.

Unup, however, fled after the department completed its investigation and has been on the run ever since, according to a news release. He is wanted on charges of first-degree child molestation.

Suspects say police planted meth

A man and woman are blaming the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office of allegedly planting methamphetamine in their car.

Deputies stopped a vehicle near 13th Avenue and Herald Road while investigating a nearby assault and learned one of the occupants, Rochelle Phillips, had a warrant for her arrest, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. The other occupant has not been formally charged.

Deputies saw a clear plastic container that contained several plastic bags of white crystalline substance inside, which was later identified as meth, according to the release. Both refused to allow the deputies to search their vehicle and claimed the deputies or someone else had placed the drugs there.

Deputies released the man and arrested Phillips on her warrant. Felony charges will be requested for both occupants for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Record-breaking heat cooks Seattle

SEATTLE – The National Weather Service says Seattle saw record-breaking hot weather Wednesday.

At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the high was 93, eclipsing the old record of 87, set in 2009.
