Cougars hold off Beavers

Kyra Holt had 26 kills and 11 digs as the Washington State volleyball team withstood an Oregon State rally and beat the Beavers in a Pac-12 Conference match in Corvallis, Ore., Friday night.

Set scores were 26-24, 25-20, 20-25, 28-26 and 15-9.

Jaicee Harris had 16 kills and 18 digs and Ver’Leea Hardaway added 10 kills and eight blocks for the Cougars (14-1, 1-1).

Lila Toner led OSU (9-4, 0-2) with 20 kills and 13 digs.

The Cougars have a week off before play at Utah next Friday.

• Jalana White had 19 kills to power Whitworth’s comeback-victory over George Fox (5-5, 0-2) in Northwest Conference play in Newberg, Ore.

Kristine Kardell added 18 kills as the Pirates dug themselves out of a two-set deficit and beat the Bruins 20-25, 21-25, 25-17, 26-24, 22-20 to claim their first conference victory of the season.

Maddye Dinsmore handed out 59 assists and added 15 digs and Nicole Leonard chipped in 15 kills and 19 digs for Whitworth (7-7, 1-1).

The Pirates play at Pacific today.

• Krista Vansant had 17 kills and Jenni Nogueras dished out 25 assists as No. 2 Washington (10-0, 2-0) stayed perfect on the season with a win over No. 21 Oregon (8-4, 1-1) in a Pac-12 Conference game in Eugene.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-19, 29-31 and 25-8.

UW’s Jenna Orlandini had 27 digs and Lianna Sybeldon had 11 blocks.

• Leeta Grap led a balanced attack with 14 kills and 10 digs as North Idaho (8-5, 1-0) swept Eastern Utah (4-12, 0-1) in Scenic West Athletic Conference play in Price, Utah.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-18 and 25-14.

Larissa Claasen had 10 kills and Maddi Soidl added 27 assists for the Cardinals.

Men’s soccer

J.J. Schmeck scored in the 75th minute to break a tie and give Edmonds (3-4, 3-1) a 2-1 NWAACC win over Community Colleges of Spokane (7-1-2, 2-1-1) in Lynnwood, Wash.

The Sasquatch’s Brian Clark opened the scoring in the 47th minute. Alex Opland assisted.

Edmonds’ Miguel Medina responded with a goal in the 59th minute.

CCS plays at Skagit Valley this afternoon.

Women’s soccer

Elexis Schlossarek scored from 30 yards out in the 64th minute to lift Idaho (2-7, 2-0) past New Mexico State (4-6-1, 1-2) 3-2 in a Western Athletic Conference match in Moscow, Idaho.

Nitalia Zuniga assisted on all three of the Vandals’ goals.

Idaho’s Breanna Wilson opened the scoring in the 21st minute and Emily Ngan scored in the 36th minute to give the Vandals a 2-1 halftime advantage.

Idaho hosts Missouri-Kansas City on Sunday.

• Karley Baggerly scored in the 23rd minute and Gonzaga (4-4-1) held on to beat UC Riverside (3-7-1) 1-0 in a nonconference match in Riverside, Calif.

Kasey Rubosky and Heather Johnson assisted on the goal.

• Community Colleges of Spokane keeper Emily Moscrip made four saves and the Sasquatch (4-0-4, 2-0-3) played to a scoreless draw with Edmonds (6-1-1, 4-0-1) in an NWAACC contest in Lynnwood, Wash.

CCS plays at Skagit Valley today.

Junior hockey

Travis Wellman scored twice to guide the Nelson Leafs (4-0) past the Spokane Braves (1-6) 4-3 in a KIJHL game at Eagles Ice-A-Rena in Spokane.

Justin Loepker scored two goals for Spokane.
