Obituary: Keir, Richard Harold

KEIR, Richard Harold Born December 30th, 1949 in Whitefield, New Hampshire.

He was preceded in death by his father Paul Keir, and his mother and stepfather Laurent and Ellen Sauve.

Rick faced all his challenges with mental toughness and grace passing away on April 6th, 2014.

Rick graduated from Grandview High School, Grandview WA in 1968 and joined the Navy.

He served on the USS Ticonderoga off the coast of Vietnam.

After returning home he attended college at the Yakima Valley College and later graduated from the LA Police Academy.

He was meant to serve and made the world a safer and better place for all.

He loved police work, and served in many capacities for the LA Police Department, Motorcycle Officer (his favorite), Secret Service Escort for Popes, Presidents, and other dignitaries he retired in 1995 after 21 years of service.

Rick married Patty in 2005 and took up residence in Spokane.

They spent many miles traveling on his Harley and for a brief period he worked his dream job for Harley Davidson in Boise, ID.

Rick worked for Rosauers Supermarkets, in loss prevention for the last five years, his love of people made the job fun.

Many of the Rosauers family supported him through his tough journey.

He is survived by his wife Patty; daughters Gina (Dwayne) Priest and Bekki Mitchell; grandchildren: Brittney, Cheryl, Zack and Austin and great-grandson Mason.

Stepchildren: Tony (Robyn) Franz, Mena Franz, and grandchildren Joylyn and Mya.

Sister Paula (Pete) Seiler, brother Garth Keir and nieces Kori, Kate, and Hanna.

Rick was strong, brave and faced all challenges with grace, a cowboy at heart.

He will be missed and remembered.

He and Pat had an army of friends and family who were there to support them.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
