Sasquatch earn split with CBC
Blake Andres pitched six strong innings and Daniel Rowton hit his sixth home run Wednesday as Community Colleges of Spokane (16-14, 8-10 NWAACC) defeated Columbia Basin 6-3 to achieve a doubleheader split at Pasco.
The Hawks (20-8, 11-7) won the opener 12-0 as Evan Harder and Steven Danek combined on a seven-inning one-hitter. Lucas Denney broke up the no-hitter with a two-out single in the seventh.
Andres (3-1) scattered seven hits and struck out four while allowing one earned run. Rowton homered to lead off the fourth for a 2-0 lead.
Men’s tennis
Third-seeded Portland won four of five singles matches to eliminate 10th-seeded Gonzaga 4-2 at the West Coast Conference Championships at San Diego.
GU’s Jack Schoebel, Muzeen Ismath and Pablo Mosquera Perez ended their careers. GU finished the season 9-14.
• Montana senior Ethan Vaughn (Mead High) was named Big Sky Conference player of the week after registering a pair of wins at No. 5 singles to help the Grizzlies (9-1 Big Sky) to victories over Eastern Washington and Montana State.
Women’s tennis
Sixth-seeded San Francisco defeated seventh-seeded Gonzaga 4-0 at the WCC Championships in San Diego, ended the Bulldogs’ season.
GU finished 9-10, including a defeat of a ranked opponent for the first time. Hanley Caras was the lone senior on GU’s roster.
