From staff reports
A Spokane Valley woman was killed on Thursday night when her car collided with a semi about five miles west of Wilbur. Melinda L. Hirst, 53, died at the scene, a news release from the Washington State Patrol said. Hirst was headed west on State Route 174 shortly after 6 p.m. when her 2003 Ford Thunderbird crossed the center line and collided with a 2014 Volvo tractor driven by Ciro Villa-Medrano of Salem, Oregon, the release said. Villa-Medrano, 45, was injured and taken to Lincoln Hospital. His passenger, Leonel Garcia-Acevedo, 42, of McMinnville, Oregon, was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, the release said. Hirst and Villa-Medrano were wearing seat belts; Garcia-Acevedo was not.
