Obituary: Macri, John
He was just 10 days shy of his 97th birthday.
John was born January 3, 1918 to Frank and Erminia (Parrotta) Macri in Spokane, Washington.
He was the 6th of 7 children.
His siblings included Salvatore Macri, Joe Macrie, Bette Slocum, Mary Segarini, Rose Sciuchetti and Bob Macri, all of whom have preceded him in death.
He spent his childhood living between Spokane, Washington and Mullan and Kellogg, Idaho.
He graduated from Kellogg High School in 1937, and went to work for the Bunker Hill Company where he spent 40 years, retiring in 1978 as the foreman of the smelter machine shop.
He has since spent over 36 years enjoying his retirement.
For the past six years, he lived in Great Falls, MT where he was so lovingly cared for by his daughter and son-in-law, Frank and Lynn Schumacher.
In 1950, John married Norma Marchi and they had 47 wonderful years together.
Norma preceded John in death in 1997.
John and Norma had two children; Lynn Schumacher (Frank) of Great Falls, MT and David Macri (Mary) of Spokane, WA.
They had six grandchildren: Matt Schumacher (Pamela), Andy Schumacher, Brent Schumacher, Jen Fitzpatrick, David Stark (Monique) and Sarah Metcalf (Ryan).
They also had 11 great-grandchildren: Cayden, Kyler and Jameson Schumacher, Kiara Fitzpatrick and Monet and David Brazier, Peyton Hill and Jayden Stark and Mason, Maddox and Marshall Metcalf.
The hardships of John’s early childhood forged in him a strong and determined constitution.
Hard work and family were of utmost importance to John and Norma.
In 1953, they bought property in Blue Creek Bay on Coeur d’ Alene Lake.
They built a cabin that would eventually become their getaway, where many happy times were spent with family and friends….and now…60 years later, have passed on that legacy to their children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
John’s family often heard him say, “It’s a beautiful spot.”
John was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg, the Knights of Columbus, the Kellogg Elks Club and the Bunker Hill 20 Year Club.
He was a true inspiration and lived by example as a Father, Nonno, Great Nonno, Brother, Uncle and friend.
He will live on in the hearts of all of us who love and miss him dearly.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at the St Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg, Idaho with Father William Crowley serving as celebrant.
A luncheon and a gathering of family and friends will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall following services.
Interment will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane, WA.
at 2:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Shoshone County Food Bank or to a charity of your choice.
