Motorist in U.S. 2 injury crash accused of drunken driving

A Spokane man is accused of drunken driving and vehicular assault after he allegedly caused a crash on U.S. Highway 2 in Pend Oreille County early Saturday morning, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Kristoff B. Bultema, 24, was driving east on Fertile Valley Road just after midnight when he failed to stop at a stop sign at U.S. 2, the WSP said. Instead, Bultema drove past the sign and stopped his 2010 Toyota Prius in the southbound lane of the U.S. 2, where he was hit by a southbound 2010 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Damion C. Nunnery, 22, also of Spokane.

Bultema and one of his two passengers, Stephanie Bultema, 24, were transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Both were listed in satisfactory condition late Saturday.

Nunnery and one of his passengers were injured but not transported to a hospital. Another of Nunnery’s passengers was taken to Sacred Heart and treated and released. Another passenger was uninjured.

Both vehicles were totaled. Southbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than two hours.
