Police investigating overnight break-in, reported rape

From staff reports
A 29-year-old man was arrested early Monday after reports he entered a home armed with a knife and raped a woman he did not know. Kenneth S. Williams was booked into Spokane County Jail just before 4 a.m. He faces charges of first-degree rape and first-degree armed burglary, according to jail records. Police received a call from a woman who said her home was burglarized and she was raped at 10 p.m. Sunday, Spokane police spokeswoman Monique Cotton said. Authorities arrived on-scene in the 1000 block of Crown Avenue and took Williams into custody without incident, she said. The woman told police she spoke through an open door to Williams, who returned armed with a knife several minutes later, forced his way in and raped her, according to a news release. Police said they believe Williams did not know the victim. Williams’ court history in Washington shows no other felony arrests. He is scheduled to make a first court appearance on the charges this afternoon.
