Spokane’s downtown COPS shop moving

Relocation brought on by rent increase, new site also downtown

The downtown COPS shop is moving down the street.

COPS Greater Spokane will move from the second floor of 120 N. Stevens St., to a storefront office at 169 S. Stevens St. by mid-August.

COPS program manager Christy Hamilton said the main reason the shop is moving is a rent increase.

“The building changed owners and the rent went way up,” Hamilton said.

COPS Greater Spokane is the flagship downtown COPS location and it is heavily used during citywide events such as Hoopfest and Bloomsday. The shop serves downtown, Browne’s Addition, Peaceful Valley and southwest Spokane, including Cliff/Cannon, Manito/Cannon Hill, Grandview-Thorpe, Latah/Hangman Valley, Comstock and West Hills neighborhoods.

The new location is smaller, said Hamilton, but it’s ready to move into.

“We don’t have to paint or carpet or do anything else to it,” Hamilton said.

She hopes to move the phone lines on Aug. 6, but calls shouldn’t be disrupted. The phone number, email and website will remain the same.

“Right now we are getting everybody lined up,” Hamilton said, adding that there will be a couple of days where the front counter has to be closed as the move is completed.

“Once we are done it will be much easier for citizens to access the new location,” Hamilton said.
