Obituary: Naccarato, Gertrude

NACCARATO, Gertrude (Age 86) Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend went home to be with The Lord while surrounded by family and friends February 26, 2014.

Gertrude, “Nonnie”, was born February 18, 1928 in Grimaldi, Italy to Silvio Cuzzetto and Eugenia Anselmo.

She immigrated first to Trail, BC Canada when she was 19 and married Joseph Naccarato in 1951.

They first lived in Priest River, ID and moved to Spokane in 1961.

Nonnie owned and operated Mamma Mia’s Restaurant with her husband and daughter for 20 years.

Serving the community was like serving her family, which brought her much joy.

Cooking was Nonnie’s passion.

What made her most happy was being surrounded by her family sharing her homemade Italian meals.

Nonnie also enjoyed gardening, gambling and shopping.

She was a proud member of the Sunshine Sewing Club for 40 years.

Her husband of 60 years, Joe, preceded her in death.

Nonnie is survived by her son Dennis Naccarato, daughter Connie Naccarato, grandson Tony Portolesi and wife Krista, granddaughter Alessandra King and husband Jimmy, great-grandson Carson Portolesi, sister Maria Giuseppina (Pina) Giordano, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a Rosary Monday, March 3rd at 6:00PM with visitation at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division.

A celebration of her life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 4th at 10:00AM at St. Thomas More Parish.
