Area roundup: GU baseball suffers 4th straight defeat

Francisco Tellez finished 4 for 5 with three runs batted in Tuesday as UC Riverside handed Gonzaga its fourth consecutive baseball setback, 11-6 in nonconference play at Riverside, Calif.

Mitch Gunsolus went 3 for 4 and Jimmy Sinatro was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs (3-12). GU led 2-1 until the Highlanders (9-8) struck for five runs on five hits in the third.

Men’s golf

Gonzaga senior Peter Gullickson (Lewis and Clark High) fired a final-round 1-over-par 72 to tie for seventh place at 4-over 217 at the Bandon (Ore.) Dunes Championship.

GU and Washington State tied for 10th among 15 teams at 903. Charlie Mroz led WSU, placing 41st at 225.

Medalist Jonathan Sanders (210) led Washington (870) to third place, seven behind champion Missouri.

Women’s golf

Sophomore Marissa Borja tied for 15th at 26-over 170 to lead Eastern Washington’s fifth-place showing at the eight-team Bison Invitational at Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas.

EWU (694) finished 63 shots behind champion Lynn (Fla.), which had the top three individual scorers. Medalist Jessica Bradley (153) fought 40-mph winds to shoot an 80.
