MOORE, Beth
Beth of Spokane, WA, was born in Elk River, ID, to Edgar and Mary Lillard on November 3, 1930.
Beth passed away on March 17, 2014, surrounded by loving family members.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Holmes of Wichita, KS and Connie Turley of Lenore, ID.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle and Danniala; and great-grandchildren Monet and Maleah.
She grew up in Lewiston, ID graduating from Lewiston High School in 1948.
Beth graduated from the University of Idaho at Moscow in 1952 where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
She moved to Spokane in 1952 working at the Crescent Department Store for 16 years as an Assistant Buyer in various departments.
She married Marvin K. Moore in September 1954.
They moved the family in 1969 to the east coast where Beth developed an appreciation for the entertainment aspects and landmarks of New York City.
Returning to Spokane in 1972, Beth continued to be a member and volunteer for numerous organizations including the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department, Spokane Music and Allied Arts Festival, Symphony Women’s Association, PEO, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni, Lincoln Heights Garden Club, American Association of University Women and Allegro.
She became a realtor in 1980 and was a co-owner of Spokane Riverpark Realty.
She retired in 2009.
For over 30 years, she coordinated the passing out of thousands of candy canes at the annual Nutcracker performances at the Spokane Opera House during the Christmas season.
She was frequently called the “Candy Cane Lady”.
In the late 1970s she was the producer of various opera productions including: Aida, La Boheme, and La Traviata for the Spokane Symphony.
She enjoyed her years as a guide at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist sharing the many historic and significant facts about the church with hundreds of tour groups.
Beginning in 1986, she was asked to lead a walking class several times per week for the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department.
Walking rain or shine, she was still leading a group up until her death.
Her many followers were amazed at her enthusiasm and knowledge of the many Spokane neighborhoods and landmarks.
A memorial service will be held in late May and details will be announced by the family.
The family wishes to acknowledge a special thanks to all of Beth’s friends, associates and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist or St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
