Obituary: Hein, Carl Steven

HEIN, Carl Steven Carl embraced life with gratitude and joy until he left us on May 3, 2014.

Diagnosed with colon cancer 7 years ago, he chose to live each day to the fullest, concentrating on living his life rather than leaving his life.

Carl was born on August 25, 1953, the youngest son of George and Norma (Sundberg) Hein.

He attended West Valley High School and Spokane Community College.

He found his niche in life in being able to fix anything and excelled at that through his career as a diesel electrician with Burlington Northern, then working with HVAC systems in Portland, Boise, Moses Lake, and Anchorage before moving back to Spokane in 1989 where he was employed at Holy Family Hospital for 24 years as a maintenance engineer.

Carl is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda Pierce, and his brothers and their wives, Ken Hein (Diane), Bruce Hein (Carol), and Keith Hein (Elisabeth), sister-in-law Becky Moser and brother-in-law Douglas (Irene) Pierce, many dearly loved nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Carl and a group of wonderful friends.

Carl loved his wife and his extended family and friends, enjoyed riding his Goldwing, brewing and sharing craft beer with his friends, music, traveling, reading, Sudoku, Swedish cookies and enjoying the beautiful sunsets on his deck.

He was a man with a spirit of generosity who enjoyed life and was grateful for all that he had been given.

His family and friends are grateful for all he gave us.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 10 at 1 pm at First Covenant Church, 2nd and Division, Spokane, WA,
