Photo: Drawdown provides peek at 1930s Roosevelt

J. Foster Fanning of Curlew visited the upper reaches of Lake Roosevelt last week to see how much of the inundated Kettle Falls has been exposed by the spring reservoir drawdown. Answer: just a little. The black and white archive photo shows the falls before building of Grand Coulee Dam in the 1930s. The falls were a sacred salmon harvest and ceremonial site for Native Americans. The X marks where Fanning shot the color photo.
