Man wounded in north Spokane shooting

Witness reported argument outside

From Staff Reports

A shooting early Sunday in north Spokane sent a man to the hospital. It was the third shooting in Spokane in as many days, including a Friday night shooting on the South Hill that left one man dead and a Saturday night incident in which a police officer shot and wounded a suspected stalker after a car chase in north Spokane.

Sunday’s shooting happened in the 2900 block of North Smith Street around 2:50 a.m. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police spokeswoman Monique Cotton said.

A witness told investigators a group was outside a residence when two or three males walked by and an argument ensued, preceding the shooting. Officers arrived within minutes and used a police dog to try to track the suspects but did not find them.

Spokane Police Department Major Crimes detectives are investigating. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

The suspected stalker wounded in Saturday’s officer-involved shooting was in stable condition at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

The shooting happened after the man crashed his car during a chase in the 2200 block of North Post Street, near the intersection with Montgomery Avenue.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating that shooting.

Friday’s shooting occurred in the Cannon’s Addition neighborhood, just east of Elm Street and 10th Avenue, shortly before midnight. The victim, who lived nearby, was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police a white man in his 40s shot the man multiple times in the torso and fled in a dark-colored SUV. No arrests have been made.
