Jacob Thorpe’s Keys to the Game

6:

Washington State turned the ball over five times and Arizona State responded each time with a touchdown. The Cougars did everything one could hope for defensively early in the game, holding ASU without a first down on six of its first seven drives. On drives after turnovers the Sun Devils averaged 11.1 yards per play; on all other drives they managed just 3.7.

2: Difference maker

Running back D.J. Foster didn’t break 100 rushing yards and he didn’t have a run that went for more than 18, but he was never tackled for a loss and consistently picked up solid yardage for ASU, averaging 6.4 yards per rush. He was also a weapon in the red zone for the Sun Devils, rushing for three touchdowns, and in the passing game, hauling in a 42-yard catch.
