Giffords finishes Tucson cycling event

From Wire Reports

Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among the hundreds of cyclists who completed an annual bike ride in Tucson.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that Giffords rode across the finish line in an El Tour de Tucson cycling ride Saturday morning.

In an email, Giffords said she has worked hard to get back on her bike.

The Tucson native rode with her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, and a friend in the 12-mile fun ride.

Kelly told KGUN-TV that his wife wants to do a 40-mile ride next year.

KGUN said more than 8,000 riders showed up for the races, which include courses of various distances.

Giffords, who was critically wounded in the 2011 Tucson mass shooting, has been training on a recumbent bicycle for six months.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Theo Kingma made the announcement Thursday night at a party in her honor. It’s been a Golden Globe tradition for 50 years to have the daughter or son of a past winner help hand out statuettes during the ceremony.

Kelsey Grammer has been nominated for nine Golden Globes and won three, Kingma said.

Greer Grammer is an actress best known for playing Lissa in the MTV series “Awkward.” She also has a recurring role on the ABC Family show “Melissa & Joey.”
