Obituary: Potter, June Gurney
Age 93
She achieved her final wish, passing at home next to her picture window looking out at blooming flowers, birds at her feeders and the yard fountain gurgling.
Her daughter Donna was holding her as she went on ahead to Jesus Christ, her personal Savior.
June was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 2, 1921 to George and Clara Gurney.
In 1940 she married her Ashley, Illinois High School love, Francis Potter.
The two nineteen year olds left a lake side house in Michigan for the traveling life of an Air Force family making a home in California, Idaho and finally in Spokane.
With Dad, she raised three children into successful adulthood: Donna (John) Phillips, Spokane, WA; Dave (Kirsten) Potter, Klamath Falls, OR and Douglas Potter, Coeur d’Alene, ID.
She left eight grandchildren, Jane, Benjamin, Timothy, Rebecca, Matthew, Amanda and Travis; eight great-grandchildren, Evan, Adam, Justin, Trevor, Aleena, Grady, Rylee, and Austin and beloved nieces June Ellen White and Karen (Dave) Wright.
She also left a loving group of friends and neighbors whose visits, cards, calls and kind help were extremely instrumental in making her years since Dad’s passing much happier.
She loved family camping, water skiing, square dancing, bird watching, painting and gardening.
She surely loved the outdoors and her flowers and birds and she could identify many by their calls!
In the late 1950s she helped Dad build their family cabin on Lake Pend Oreille, ID, where often a dozen were squeezed around the dinner table after a day of water sports.
She said cabin times were the best times of her life.
God allowed her to visit the cabin (and Dad’s ashes) one last time at the age of 92, walking the steep hill.
After retiring from being an Air Force officer’s wife, she helped finish and landscape their home in the Spokane Valley.
She and Dad enjoyed traveling to many countries around the world and places in the U.S. She and Dad volunteered at the Fairchild Air Force Base Hospital for many years.
They were active with the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council for many years, co-authoring many, many non-game wildlife articles.
A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Both wonderful groups made Mom’s last months so much easier.
June’s family certainly thanks them and the constant, loving efforts of her next door neighbors.
June, our Mom, is now in eternal joy.
