Suspect arrested in Browne’s Addition armed burglaries

Police arrested a Spokane man Friday after he allegedly followed a woman into a secure Browne’s Addition apartment building and scratched her with a razor knife.

Jesse J. Spencer, 28, faces an armed burglary charge in connection with the incident. According to court documents, the victim was outside The Buckman, an apartment building on West First Avenue, when Spencer approached her and asked her for a knife. She told police she tried to go inside and Spencer followed her. He pushed her with the hand holding two sticks and a razor knife, court documents say.

The victim told police Spencer asked which apartment she lived in and said, “I’m gonna cut you,” court documents say. She ran upstairs and believed he left the building.

Another Browne’s Addition resident told police Spencer came to his front door that afternoon asking for a glass of water and entered his house without permission. Spencer only left when the man grabbed his shirt and forced him out, court documents say.

Police arrested Spencer at West Fifth Avenue and North Cannon Street. He told officers that people were after him, court documents say. He also said he used methamphetamine several days ago, which sometimes makes him paranoid.

Spencer is being held in jail on a $35,000 bond.
