Chiefs Niklas Andersen, Lasse Petersen will represent Denmark at world juniors

Spokane Chiefs forward Niklas Andersen and goaltender Lasse Petersen have been selected to represent Denmark in the upcoming International Ice Hockey FederationWorld Junior Championship, the Chiefs announced Tuesday.

The tournament will run Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Helsinki, Finland. Denmark will open Dec. 27 against Switzerland.

“The World Junior Championship will be a fantastic opportunity for Niklas and Lasse,” Chiefs general manager Tim Speltz said. “It is always an honor for players to represent their country in international competition.

“The tournament is great for player development, both on the ice and also personally. We wish them the best.”

Andersen was the Chiefs’ first-round selection (26th overall) in the 2015 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. The left winger has totaled five goals and six assists in 22 games.

Petersen has appeared in four games since the Chiefs claimed him off waivers on Nov. 5. He has won twice, including a shutout, and has posted a 2.66 goals-against average and .899 save percentage.

Beaver Valley routs Spokane Braves

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks (19-5-1-0-2) scored five third-period goals and raced past the Spokane Braves 8-2 in a KIJHL game in Fruitvale, British Columbia.

Connor McIntosh and Mason Jones scored goals for Spokane (4-23-0-0-4).
