Gonzaga women’s win streak reaches 11

Sunny Greinacher led a balanced offensive attack with 18 points and the Gonzaga women’s basketball team won its 11th straight, 85-63, over Portland in a West Coast Conference game Saturday at Chiles Center in Portland.

The Bulldogs (17-4, 10-0) used a 10-0 run late in the first half to break open a close game.

GU’s Emma Wolfram added 13 points, Shelby Cheslek had 12 points and seven rebounds and Elle Tinkle chipped in 11 points and four assists. The Bulldogs bench contributed 34 points.

Cassandra Brown, Kari Luttinen and Jasmine Wooton scored 14 points apiece for the Pilots (4-17, 2-8).

The Bulldogs play four of their next six games at home. They host WCC foe Santa Clara Thursday at 6 p.m.

(12) Stanford 75, Washington State 56: Amber Orrange scored 15 points, Erin McCall added 14 and the Cardinal (16-5, 8-1) took control in the second half to beat the Cougars (13-7, 4-5) in a Pac-12 Conference game in Stanford, California.

Lili Thompson and Karlie Samuelson had 10 apiece for Stanford, which is now 59-0 all-time against the Cougars. WSU let a late 11-point lead slip away to lose in overtime in the last meeting.

Lia Galdeira had 18 points for Washington State and Mariah Cooks added 13, but Tia Presley was held to four, 15 below her average, on 1-of-10 shooting.

(17) Whitworth 67, Willamette 51: The Pirates took an early lead and never really let the Bearcats (6-13, 1-9) challenge in a Northwest Conference win at Whitworth Fieldhouse in Spokane.

The Pirates (18-1, 9-1) got 18 points from senior forward Jessica Kramer and 17 from junior guard K.C. McConnell in the victory.

“They got in foul trouble and defended us differently in the second half,” Whitworth coach Helen Higgs said. “I’m happy with what they did.”

Kendra Knutsen scored nine points. Guard Lexie Zappone had eight points, five rebounds and three steals for the Pirates.

The game was a dead heat in rebounds, but Whitworth scored 21 points off of Bearcat turnovers and outscored Willamette 30-20 in the paint.

Idaho 71, Eastern Washington 58: Stacey Barr scored 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds and the Vandals (9-10, 3-5) pulled away after halftime and beat the Eagles (11-8, 4-4) in a Big Sky Conference game in Moscow, Idaho.

The loss was Eastern Washington’s fourth straight.

Idaho made 16 of 19 free throws in the second half to pull away. Geraldine McCorkell added 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Vandals.

Eastern Washington’s Hayley Hodgins scored 22 points and Jade Redmon added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.

California 82, Washington 58: Reshanda Gray scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Golden Bears (15-5, 7-2) led wire-to-wire in a lopsided Pac-12 Conference win over the Huskies (16-5, 5-4) in Berkeley, California.

Cal ended a two-game losing skid to Washington and kept the Golden Bears in the top four in conference. The Bears now have won 13 of the last 19 games with the Huskies.

Jazmine Davis scored 19 points and Kelsey Plum added 17 to lead Washington, which posted a 79-77 win over Cal in Seattle.

Big Bend 58, CC Spokane 52: Aubrie Vale had 21 points, five rebounds and four steals and Riley Jemmett added 18 points and nine boards as the Vikings (9-12, 2-5) took advantage of the cold-shooting Sasquatch (13-10, 2-5) and beat CCS in a Northwest Athletic Conference game in Moses Lake.

Gese Gruber had 20 points and five rebounds for CCS, which missed all eight of its first-half 3-pointers.

Salt Lake 72, North Idaho 49: Clarissa Sabedra and Shelby Richards had 16 points and five rebounds apiece and the Bruins (21-4, 9-1) raced past the cold-shooting Cardinals (16-9, 4-6) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Coeur d’Alene.

NIC shot just 28.3 percent from the field, while Salt Lake shot 50 percent.

The Cardinals’ Kara Staggs poured in a game-high 20 points and Monica Landdeck added 17 points and seven rebounds.

Men

Salt Lake 69, North Idaho 55: De’Sean Parsons scored 14 points and C.J. Spjute added 13 points and six rebounds as the Bruins (20-4, 8-2) topped the Cardinals (17-6, 5-5) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Coeur d’Alene.

North Idaho forced 15 turnovers, but couldn’t convert offensively. The Cardinals shot 28.6 percent from the field and made just 4 of 28 3-pointers.

NIC’s Braian Angola led three players in double figures with 14 points.

CC Spokane 78, Big Bend 75: Race Martin led four players in double figures with 18 points and the Sasquatch (14-8, 4-3) rallied after halftime to beat the Vikings (17-6, 5-2) in a Northwest Athletic Conference game in Moses Lake.

Dean Richey added 17 points and Jacob DeVries and Jake Love added a combined 21 for CCS.
