Girls basketball: Sandpoint’s Madi Schoening scores 49 in win over Lakeland

It was just one of those nights for Sandpoint’s Madi Schoening.

The junior poured in 49 points, leading the Bulldogs to a 65-46 Inland Empire League 4A win over Lakeland in Rathdrum on Tuesday night. Schoening made 16 of 23 shots, including 7 of 8 3-pointers, and 10 of 12 free throws.

Sandpoint (12-8, 4-0) jumped ahead 18-5 in the first quarter and leaned on Schoening throughout.

Kaidan Kelsey led Lakeland (5-15, 0-4) with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sandpoint beat the Hawks 48-23 in the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 10.

Great Northern

East Valley 66, West Valley 55: Hannah Burland hit four 3-pointers and scored 27 points and the Knights (17-2, 11-0) overcame an early deficit and beat the visiting Eagles (8-11, 6-5). The win was East Valley’s 11th straight. The Knights, who hit nine 3s, outscored West Valley 29-13 in the third to erase a four-point halftime deficit. Elle Burland added 14 points and Jordan Phelan chipped in 12 for East Valley. Erin Higbie led three Eagles in double figures with 22 points.

Pullman 67, Cheney 41: Emily Drake scored 32 points and added nine rebounds and four steals to power the Greyhounds (10-9, 6-5) past the host Blackhawks (5-15, 0-12). Pullman’s Savannah Paul added 16 points. Kendyl Cone led Cheney with 15 points and three steals.

Intermountain

Bonners Ferry 69, Timberlake 63 (OT): Jasmine Hill and Savannah Woods scored 17 points apiece and the Badgers (10-7, 3-3) edged the Tigers (15-3, 5-1) at Spirit Lake. Timberlake’s Allison Kirby poured in 32 points, including five 3-pointers.

Northeast A

Colville 40, Freeman 33: Megan Lee scored 12 points and the Indians (10-8, 9-3) surged ahead in the second and third quarters and beat the host Scotties (5-13, 5-7). Freeman made things interesting with a 13-5 fourth-quarter run, but couldn’t complete the comeback. The Scotties’ Isabelle Miller tossed in a game-high 13 points and Cassidy Crosswhite added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Chewelah 50, Riverside 33: Kaitlin Krouse scored nine of her game-high 14 points in the second half as the Cougars (10-8, 9-3) surged ahead in the second and third quarters and dumped the visiting Rams (6-10, 5-6). Chewelah led by just a point at intermission, but outscored Riverside 32-13 in the second half. The Rams’ Julianna Trepanier tallied a team-high 13 points.

Medical Lake 41, Newport 34: Cassidy Hagel scored 15 points, including a key bucket late in the fourth, and the Cardinals (6-12, 5-7) topped the visiting Grizzlies (3-14, 2-9). Makayla Geiger added 11 points for Medical Lake. Newport’s Hadley Stratton tossed in a team-high nine points.

Lakeside (WA) 61, Deer Park 14: The Eagles (17-1, 12-0) forced 23 turnovers and held the Stags (0-18, 0-12) to 14 percent shooting in a win in Nine Mile Falls. Jocelyn Cook-Cox led Lakeside with 16 points and six rebounds. Deer Park’s Damaris Guske tallied a team-high six points.

North Star

Kootenai 52, Mullan 44: KayeLee Carman hit four clutch free throws late in the fourth to help the Warriors get past the Tigers in Harrison. Kootenai’s Kaili Gentry had 17 points and eight rebounds and Carman finished with 13 points. Mullan’s Charli Sadler poured in 25 points.

Northeast 1B North

Inchelium 49, Northport 34: Maraia Zacherle scored 18 points and Randi Finley added 15 as the Hornets (7-8, 6-6) used a 19-4 second-quarter run to get past the host Mustangs (3-14, 1-8). Northport, which committed 32 turnovers, was led by Clara Sanchez, who scored 18 points.

Cusick 42, Selkirk 32: Jocelin Nenema scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the Panthers (6-9, 5-5) defeated the visiting Rangers (7-11, 4-6). Selkirk’s Hannah Rick scored 13 points.

Northeast 1B South

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 59, Odessa-Harrington 30: Reinnee Rockett scored 21 points and Brenna Oliver and Katie Emerson added 10 apiece as the Warriors (15-3, 11-1) raced past the Titans in Odessa. ACH limited Odessa-Harrington to just 23 percent shooting from the field. Katie DeWulf led the Titans with 16 points and six rebounds.

Valley Christian 30, Columbia 12: Phoebe Trigstad scored a game-high 12 points and the Panthers (3-15, 2-7) topped the Lions (0-16, 0-12) in Hunters. Columbia’s Ailaina Cooney scored 10 of the Lions’ 12 points.

Southeast 1B

Colton 76, Garfield-Palouse 32: Savannah Chadwick hit five 3-pointers and finished with 26 points and eight rebounds as the Wildcats (20-0, 13-0) routed the visiting Vikings (2-14, 2-10). Zoe Moser added 14 points and eight steals for Colton. Payson Griner led Garfield-Palouse with 13 points.

St. John-Endicott 64, Liberty Christian 42: Abby Glorfield had 23 points and eight steals, Gracie Dickerson added 17 points and 10 rebounds and the Eagles (8-10, 5-7) forced 27 turnovers in a win over the Patriots in Richland. St. John-Endicott surged after halftime, outscoring Liberty Christian 40-24 to put the game away. The Patriots were led by Karlee Souve and Raylene Monteith, who combined for 27 points.

Oakesdale 55, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 11: The Nighthawks (12-6, 9-4) limited the Tigercats to just two first-half points and cruised to a win in Oakesdale. The Nighthawks’ Jacey Johnson scored 16 points and Anne Hockett added 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting.
