Died Golfer Charlie Sifford, who fought the Caucasian-only clause on the PGA Tour and became its first black member has died. He was 92. A proud man who endured threats and racial taunts, Sifford won twice on the PGA Tour. His goal was to win and play in the three American majors. He never made it to the Masters, which did not have its first black player until Lee Elder in 1975. Sifford became the first black to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004

Out The Canberra Captials of the Australian league say three-time WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson will undergo further surgery on her troublesome right knee and miss the rest of the domestic season. Jackson played just six games for the Capitals in after an 11-month break recovering from the hip and knee injuries that kept her out of last year’s world championships. It is not clear when she’ll be able to rejoin the Seattle Storm.

Agreed Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez has agreed to a one-year contract worth $3,275,000, avoiding a salary arbitration hearing. Gonzalez was 10-9 with a 3.23 ERA for the A.L. East champions last season, when he earned $529,000.
