Obituary: Benson, John R.

Age 74

BENSON , John R. (Age 74) Passed away peacefully on February 1, 2015 in Spokane Valley, Washington.

He was born November 25, 1940 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho to Dean and Nyma (Skoglund) Benson.

He lived in Coeur d’ Alene and entered the Navy as a young man.

After his discharge from the Navy he attended the University of Washington where he earned a degree in business.

He worked as a public accountant and later worked as a controller for USF Reddeway Trucking in Spokane.

In his spare time he enjoyed weaving blankets for family and friends, spending time at Coeur d’ Alene Lake, watching baseball and had an extreme interest in collecting clocks of all kinds.

He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in his early 40’s and entered Good Samaritan Nursing Home in 1996.

He lived out his remaining years under the care and compassion of the nursing staff there and the family would like to thank the staff for taking such good care of him.

John is survived by his wife of 47 yrs; Gloria of Valleyford, WA.

Rebecca Benson of Seattle, WA.

Robert Benson of Spokane, WA.

Kelly Benson of Beaverton, OR.

Deborah Solo of Richland, WA.

Gregory Benson of Wenatchee, WA.

and Barbara Benson of Portland, OR.

Ten Grandchildren.

Brother; David Dean.

Step brothers and sister; Gary Stout, Fred Stout and Annette Crawford.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Deanna Stout and Jane McCulloch.

Memorial contributions may made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Mr. Bensons memory.

A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 pm.

on Thursday, February 5th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams in Spokane Valley.

A funeral mass follow at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
