Boys basketball: Salinas, Wellpinit use big fourth quarter to rally past ACH

Alfonso Salinas hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left as Wellpinit erased a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit and beat Almira/Coulee-Hartline 55-52 in a Northeast 1B League game Friday in Wellpinit.

Salinas finished with 14 points, including three 3s in the fourth, and eight rebounds.

The Redskins used their aggressive full-court pressure defense in the fourth to outscore the Warriors 23-13.

ACH’s Payton Neilson led all scorers with 19 points. The Warriors beat Wellpinit 70-65 in the teams’ first meeting on Dec. 20.

Curlew 51, Selkirk 39: Coby Grumbach had 19 points and 10 rebounds and the Cougars (15-4) built a comfortable first-half lead and held on late to beat the visiting Rangers (11-8).

Aaron McCullough added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Curlew. Selkirk’s Dominic Cain tallied a team-high 14 points and Cole Dawson added 10.

Republic 74, Inchelium 66: Aaron Fritts scored 22 points and Trevor Remien hit 4 of 5 3s and added 15 points as the Tigers (9-9) edged the visiting Hornets (3-14).

Inchelium’s Quentin Holford tallied a game-high 25 points.

Cusick 61, Northport 47: Alec Bluff scored 18 points and the Panthers (11-8) built a 16-point first-half lead and eased past the host Mustangs (9-10). Chad Browneagle and Cameron Bauer added a combined 22 points for Cusick. Eero Kuusela led Northport with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Odessa-Harrington 63, Columbia 26: The Titans (10-9) came away with 21 steals and held the Lions (0-18) scoreless in the first quarter in a win in Odessa. Carsen Weber led Odessa-Harrington with 21 points, seven assists and six steals and Shane Whitaker added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Great Northern

Pullman 60, West Valley 42: Micah Lagerquist had 19 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks and the Greyhounds (16-4, 9-3) topped the visiting Eagles (13-7, 7-5). Lagerquist made 7 of 13 shots and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line. Pullman’s Kyle Imler added 13 points and James Miles chipped in 10. West Valley’s Martin Herford hit three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 18 points.

North Star

Wallace 55, Kootenai 28: The Miners broke open a close game with a 21-3 third-quarter run and dumped the visiting Warriors. Justin Bayer scored 17 points and Dillon Browning added 16 for Wallace. Kootenai’s Colson Schultz tossed in a team-high nine points.

Northeast A

Riverside 68, Colville 49: Tyler Axtell made 8 of 9 free throws and scored 27 points and the Rams (16-3, 11-2) kept pace with Lakeside atop the league standings with a win over the visiting Indians (2-16, 2-11). Kevin Huggins added 15 points and 16 rebounds and Andrew Kramer chipped in 10 points and 10 boards for Riverside. Colville’s Chase Sandine and Jack Hinds combined for 23 points. The Rams can secure at least a share of the league title with a win at Medical Lake on Tuesday.

Freeman 84, Chewelah 52: Ryan Maine hit seven 3-pointers and scored 31 points to guide the Scotties (10-9, 8-5) to a rout of the host Cougars (1-18, 0-13). Jack Paukert added four 3s and 26 points for Freeman, which made 15 3-pointers in all. Chewelah’s Chase Frizzell tallied a career-high 22 points and Liam Brozik chipped in 12.

Southeast 1B

Pomeroy 75, St. John-Endicott 26: Cole Mayfield scored 21 points, Kade Snyder had 15 and Bryan McGreevy added 12 as the Pirates (18-2, 13-1) overwhelmed the visiting Eagles (8-11, 5-8). SJE’s Adam Blakely tallied a team-high nine points.

Colton 82, Oakesdale 55: Grant Kinzer scored 28 points and Carter Dahmen 17 as the Wildcats (10-6, 9-4) routed the host Nighthawks (4-15, 2-11). Tanner Dingman led four Oakesdale players in double figures with 14 points.

Nonleague

Lakeland 49, Priest River 20: Tyrel Derrick scored 11 points and dished out seven assists and the Hawks (13-5) opened the game on a 14-0 run and eased past the host Spartans (3-13). Lakeland’s Jake Ram added 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Mason Clark led Priest River with nine points and five assists.
