District 8 basketball: Mead boys avenge pair of losses to Gonzaga Prep

Max Hess led three players in double figures with 15 points and Mead established control early and upset Gonzaga Prep 60-42 in a District 8 4A loser-out game Tuesday night at Gonzaga Prep.

The Panthers (11-10) made 9 of 10 shots in the first quarter and built a 15-point lead. Mead’s Will McPhee added 13 points and Josh Richter chipped in 11.

Gonzaga Prep’s Logan Adams tallied a team-high 12 points. The Bullpups (13-8) won both games against Mead in the regular season. The Panthers will play at No. 1 seed Lewis and Clark on Thursday.

Shadle Park 70, North Central 30: Andreas Brown hit three 3s and scored 14 points and the Highlanders (13-8) eased past the Indians (3-18) in a loser-out game at Shadle Park.

George Pilimai and Kylan Kelley added 12 points apiece for Shadle Park, which outscored North Central 21-6 in both the first and third quarters.

The Indians’ Riley Smith tallied a team-high 12 points.

Shadle Park will play at top-seeded Rogers on Friday in a seeding game for the regional tournament.

Mead 52, University 44: Sue Winger scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds and the Panthers (14-7) pulled away after halftime and beat the Titans (12-9) in a loser-out game at Mead. Payton Douglass added 12 points, five assists and three steals for Mead. University’s Kaitlin Pannell tallied a team-high 14 points. The Panthers play at Gonzaga Prep on Thursday.

Mt. Spokane 52, North Central 30: Jordan Smith scored 15 points, Jessica McKernan added 10 and the Wildcats (8-13) pulled away after halftime and beat the Indians (2-19) in a loser-out game at Mt. Spokane.

The Wildcats extended their seven-point halftime lead to 19 with a 20-8 third-quarter run. Mt. Spokane shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the quarter.

Jaidyn Lyman added six points, six assists, four steals and four rebounds for the Wildcats, who will play at Shadle Park (5-15) on Friday in a seeding game for regionals.
