Obituary: Port, Alan

Age 77

PORT, Alan W. Born February 11th, died February 11th 77 years later at his home with loved ones.

The son of Walter and Emma (Kupka) Port, Al was born and raised in Bemidji, MN with his three younger siblings.

He succumbed to the devastation of Lewy’s Body Dementia.

He was a patriotic, kind, ethical, devoted gentleman and family man with a great love for God and nature - an irreplaceable husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

He joined the USAF at age 17 and served his country with extreme pride for the next 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1976.

Alan W. Port and Karen R. Jenne were married February 14, 1981 and two families became one.

They resided in Tyler, WA prior to retiring to King’s Lake northeast of Usk, WA in 1991.

Eventually retirement dissolved into the creation of Endless Seasons Resort - thus fulfilling Al’s lifelong dream of a wilderness retreat.

Advancing illness forced the sale of this dream location and necessitated a move to Spokane.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, snowmobiling, woodworking and classic cars - although time spent with family was by far his favorite.

30-plus year member of the American Legion, currently with Post 0217, Cusick, WA.

Past member of the Spokane T-Bird Club, Winter Knights, Pend Oreille County Watchdogs, and the P.O.C.

Search and Rescue.

In addition to his wife of 34 years, Al is survived by five children: Randy Port (Pam) of Medical Lake, WA, Rick Port (Joanne) Apache Junction, AZ, Mike Port (Lori) Spokane, WA, Kim Mayer (Steven) Airway Heights, WA, and Alan W. Port II (Ruth) Cheney, WA; two stepchildren R. Tom Turley (Kelly) Tyler, WA and Michael Jenne (Paula) Old Town, ID; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; his brother Mike Port and sisters Willa Carlson and Karen Speck- all in Minnesota; and his dog Freddie.

Al was preceded in death by both of his parents and former wife Nancy.
