GSL boys basketball: Third-quarter spree lifts CV past G-Prep

In a game close for a half, the Central Valley boys basketball team separated quickly in the second half Thursday.

The Bears outscored Gonzaga Prep 21-9 in the decisive third quarter, and visiting Central Valley eased to a 58-44 win over the Bullpups.

CV (11-2 overall, 9-2 Greater Spokane League) remained in a three-way tie for first with Rogers and University.

Michael Hannan led the Bears with 17 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Logan Adams led G-Prep (7-6, 6-5) with 13 points.

The Bears built as much as an 18-point lead in the third quarter and were not threatened in the fourth.

In the first quarter, CV used a 10-0 run to finish the period with a 12-6 lead.

A steal and basket by Hannan in the second put the Bears ahead 22-12 before the Bullpups tighten it up to trail 23-19 going into halftime.

Shadle Park 68, Lewis and Clark 60: The Highlanders (8-5, 6-5) got out to an 11-point lead by halftime and stretched it to 19 going into the fourth quarter. The visiting Tigers (9-4, 7-4) tightened the margin by outscoring Shadle 32-19 in the fourth.

Kobe Reece led Shadle with 17 points and George Pilimai had 13. Julian Wedge led the Tigers with 19, all coming in the final quarter.

University 76, Ferris 71: In a game of long-range shooting, the visiting Titans (11-2, 9-2) prevailed by making the most 3-pointers. U-Hi knocked down 16 3-pointers to 11 by the Saxons (5-8, 3-8).

Dray White led the Titans with a season-high 25 points including six 3-pointers. Spencer Matt, who made five 3s, finished with 15 and Robert Little added 11.

Freshman Mike Ervin paced Ferris with 24 points, Murphy Butte had 17 and Jace Van Lierop chipped in 15.

Rogers 62, Mt. Spokane 36: The visiting Pirates (10-3, 9-2) outscored the Wildcats (1-11, 1-9) 34-16 in the second half.

KJ Hassett led Rogers with 20 points, Robert Rucker had 17 and Melik Hampton added 15. Sam Stiles led Mt. Spokane with 14.

Mead 59, North Central 42: The Panthers (7-6, 5-6) got out to a 31-16 lead by intermission. Will McPhee led Mead with 14 points, Max Hess had 13 and Dedrick Pakootas added 12. Blake Ellingsen had a team high 11 rebounds for the Panthers. Riley Smith led the Indians (1-12, 0-11) with 12 points.
