Obituary: Nelson, Lloyd M.

Age 93

NELSON, Lloyd M. (Age 93) Lloyd Marvin Nelson quietly passed into the Lord’s arms on July 18, 2015.

Lloyd was born in Williston, North Dakota on September 13th, 1921, to Roy and Anna Nelson.

His early years were spent in North Dakota until the family moved to Everett, Washington.

He graduated from Everett High School in 1940 and joined the Army in 1942.

While in the service he attended Syracuse University and the University of Illinois.

During WWII he traveled overseas as a radar mechanic and proudly served in the 435th Airborne Troop Carrier Group in France.

After returning from the war he met and married the love of his life, Dolores Branshaw on July 13, 1946.

They had four children and were blessed with 69 years together.

Lloyd worked in the retail business as a manager and buyer until his retirement in 1986.

He and Dolores moved to Colfax, WA in 1994, and spent many years as active and beloved community members.

He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, was involved with the Knights of Columbus, and the F.I.S.H.

food bank.

He was elected and served as a city council member and contributed greatly as an honorary member of the Colfax police department.

He also enjoyed designing and crafting many different types of woodwork, and enjoyed travelling.

In 2005 they moved to Spokane and became active members of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Dolores and his four children: Michael (Lydia) Nelson, Thomas (Sharon) Nelson, Susan (Terry) Pittman and Craig Nelson.

He is also survived by his sister Barbara Anderson; brother Wes Nelson; along with five grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Lloyd lived his last year at the Spokane Veteran’s Home and the family would like to thank them for his wonderful care.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 24th at 10:00AM, at Our Lady Fatima Catholic Church, 33rd and Perry, Spokane.
