Obituary: Maddox, Rodney E.

Age 46

MADDOX, Rodney E. Rodney E. Maddox, 46, passed away June 23, 2015 in Spokane, WA after prolonged illness and infections caused by complications due to multiple knee surgeries, which resulted in vital organ failures.

He was born on December 11, 1968 in Tucson, AZ, one of three children of Gail and Stephen Maddox.

Rodney’s family relocated to Spokane, WA in 1979 where he attended school from elementary through high school.

While attending Shadle Park High, Rodney met the woman who would become his wife and lifetime friend, Janel Whittaker.

Rodney dedicated more than 25 years of his life working for the State of Washington at Lakeland Village, where he cared for the developmentally disabled.

Rodney loved his work and his clients, and considered the people at Lakeland to be his second family.

Rodney was an outgoing man who possessed the ability to light up every room that he walked into.

Rodney had a sense of humor that was unmatched and an enormous heart that never ran out of love and compassion.

He was known for performing his impromptu stand up comedy for anyone who would listen, welcoming those into his home who needed food and shelter, and acting as a father figure for many, many children.

Rodney will be especially remembered for his impeccable cooking skills (including his famous BBQ), his love for all things in nature from camping to gardening, and his endless hunger for adventure.

Rodney was preceded in death by his mother Gail Maddox and his father Stephen Maddox.

He is survived by his sister Phillis Maddox, his brother Glen Maddox, his aunt Patricia Maddox and his uncle Vic Maddox.

Rodney also leaves his beloved wife Janel and his four biological children Marshaun, Janessa, Phalon and Justice.

Other family members include his mother-in-law Jean Whittaker, sister- in-law Tiffany Dimond, niece Tanaisha Marlin-Dimond and her daughter Veraha.

As well as his nephews Brandon Maddox and Stephen Layton, and his niece Chelsie Heath.

In addition to his biological children, Rodney has many children that he took in as his own, who also referred to him as Dad or Uncle Rodney.

These children include Darian, Ryan, Moe, and Davier and countless other children that are acknowledged and remembered.

Rodney is deeply missed by all who love him.

A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends.
