A motorcycle rider died Friday afternoon after a collision with a Spokane Transit Authority bus in northeast Spokane.

Names of the motorcyclist and the bus driver have not been released.

The collision occurred in the intersection at East Euclid Avenue and North Crestline Street. Police said the motorcycle rider was traveling west on Euclid and the bus was traveling east. The bus began a left turn and hit the motorcycle, said Spokane police Sgt. Mike Carr.

The intersection has traffic lights but no left-turn light.

Susan Meyer, chief executive officer of STA, said Friday afternoon she couldn’t comment on the incident because the police investigation was still in process.

The first report was at 1:37 p.m., Carr said.

The motorcyclist was wearing a half-helmet for head protection. The motorcycle came to rest under the bus, and the bus’s front windshield was cracked.

Witnesses said passengers on the bus, No. 2715, which was on STA’s No. 27 Hillyard route, tried to help the motorcycle rider.

Police were reviewing video from the bus as well as from a business on the southwest corner of the intersection, Carr said.

The intersection was closed for several hours while police investigated.
