Prep roundup: University tops Chiawana in 4A regional volleyball match

Rachael Schlect had 20 kills and six blocks to lead University past Chiawana 25-21, 25-20, 26-24 in a 4A regional volleyball elimination match Tuesday in Pasco.

Kendall Collins added 33 assists for the Titans, who are now one of four teams fighting for three state-tournament berths.

University will play at Mead on Saturday. The winner will advance to the regional title match to determine the top two seeds to state. The loser will play in an elimination match to determine the third and final state berth.

Lakeside def. Newport: Lexi Mikkelsen had 20 kills and 22 digs as the Eagles topped the Grizzlies in a District 7 1A match in Nine Mile Falls. Scores were 25-21, 25-17 and 25-20.

Lakeside will play Freeman in Saturday’s district title match. Newport will play Deer Park Saturday in a loser-out match.

Freeman def. Deer Park: Alisha Straw had 12 kills and Bayley Stejer dished out 13 assists as the Scotties swept the Stags in a District 7 1A match in Freeman. Scores were 25-18, 25-12 and 25-16.

Hanna Hansen and Helen Forman added seven digs apiece for the Scotties.

Boys soccer

St. George’s 13, Dayton 0: Mitchell Ward and Stow Miller scored two goals apiece as the Dragons (16-3) rolled past the visiting Dayton Bulldogs in a 2B/1B regional opener. Caelan Angell added one goal and two assists for the Dragons, who outshot Dayton 36-0. The Dragons will play a winner-to-state, loser-out match against Northwest Christian at 2 p.m. Friday at home.

Girls soccer

University 3, Richland 2: Julia Adair scored her second goal of the match off a penalty kick in the 77th minute and the Titans (12-5) stayed alive by beating Richland in a 4A regional elimination match in Richland.

Adair also scored in the 12th minute and Kelsey Crosby added an 18th-minute goal for University, which will play at Gonzaga Prep on Thursday.

Southridge 3, Mt. Spokane 0: Syd Sanders scored twice to guide the Suns past the Wildcats (11-5) in a 3A regional match in Kennewick.

The win gave Southridge the top seed to the state tournament. Mt. Spokane will play Kamiakin in a loser-out match on Saturday to determine the second and final seed to state.

Kamiakin 2, North Central 0: Heather Donais and Maddie Morgan scored second-half goals and the Braves blanked the Indians (5-10) in a 3A regional elimination match in Kennewick.

East Valley 1, Clarkston 0: Shannon Frucci scored in the 67th minute to lift the Knights (13-3) past the Bantams (8-9) in the District 7 2A title match at East Valley. The goal was a direct free kick in the 22nd minute that sailed just over the keeper’s outstretched arms.

The win gave East Valley the top seed to the subregional tournament. Clarkston is the second seed. Both teams will play Saturday against Central Washington Athletic Conference teams.
