EWU men’s basketball game with Seattle U postponed to Wednesday afternoon

Heavy winds and dangerous road conditions forced the postponement of Eastern Washington’s basketball game Tuesday night, EWU athletic director Bill Chaves said.

The Eagles will play Seattle University on Wednesday. Tipoff at Reese Court is at 12:30 p.m.

Sustained winds of 40 miles per hour caused several road closures and other dangerous situations. Because the Seattle team had spent Monday night and Tuesday morning in Spokane rather than Cheney, officials decided to postpone the game rather forced the Redhawks and officials to make the drive.

“At the end of the day we didn’t want to put a bus on the road,” said Chaves, adding that the game “more than likely would have been played Tuesday had the Redhawks already been in Cheney.

“For the safety of all concerned, we were fortunate enough to have the teams and officials stay the night and play at mid-day on Wednesday,” said Chaves said.

If conditions improve, the Seattle team is expected to drive home on Wednesday after the game.

Ticket holders unable to use their tickets on Wednesday will have their tickets honored at the door for any future game, Chaves said.
