Bear found in tree in North Spokane

State wildlife officials tranquilized and trapped a black bear found in a tree in North Spokane Friday morning.

Neighbors reported the bear wandering around the neighborhood Friday around 1:30 a.m. and said it climbed up a tree behind the Albertsons at North Nevada Street and East Lyons Avenue around 7 a.m..

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to the area.

The bear was tranquilized, trapped and tagged with plans to relocate it to a forested area north of Spokane.

“There’s a lot of residences, lot of people around,” said Fish and Wildlife officer Jason Langbehn said. “We just want to make sure everybody’s safe.”
