Idaho captures Big Sky women’s soccer for first time

Clara Gomez scored early, Alyssa Lloyd added one late, and Idaho beat Northern Colorado 2-0 on Sunday in Greeley, Colorado, to earn its first Big Sky regular season championship in women’s soccer.

The Vandals earned the right to host the conference tournament, which starts Nov. 6, and a bye into the semifinals.

– Delaney Romero and Aimie Inthoulay scored to help Eastern Washington beat North Dakota 2-1 in Cheney.

The Eagles (12-3-2, 6-2-1) are tied for second with Northern Colorado in the Big Sky Conference with one match remaining.

– Redshirt-freshman Ella Dederick made four saves but No. 25 Washington State fell to No. 14 California 1-0 in the Cougars’ final women’s soccer home match of the regular season.

Karly Graf of the Bears (12-4-2, 5-3-0 Pac-12) scored the lone goal in the 56th minute.

Senior Beau Bremer had three shots on goal for the Cougars (11-5-0, 4-4-0).

– Washington gave up three second half goals and fell to No. 4 Stanford 3-0 in Seattle.

The Huskies (11-4-2, 4-3-1) got three first-half saves from Megan Kufeld, but Stanford (14-2-0, 8-0-0) scored twice in two minutes midway through the second half.

Whitworth played to a tie for the second consecutive day with a 0-0 draw against visiting Willamette in Northwest Conference action.

The Pirates (6-8-3, 4-6-3) played their third overtime match over their last five games.

Whitworth goalie Sienna Tanner recorded nine saves during her third start of the season to earn her second shutout.

Five players scored for Loyola Marymount and Gonzaga fell 5-0 in a West Coast Conference match in Los Angeles.

Heather Johnson had two shots in the game for Gonzaga (2-10-5, 1-5-1), and now has 173 in her career.

Men’s soccer

Sam Engle scored the lone goal just after halftime – his seventh of the season – and visiting Whitworth knocked off Puget Sound 1-0 in Tacoma.

No. 4 Whitworth (13-1-1, 9-1-1) completed a season sweep of Puget Sound (9-6-1, 7-3-1).

The Pirates stayed one point ahead of Pacific Lutheran at the top of the Northwest Conference standings.

Volleyball

McKenna Woodford had 13 kills and six digs, but Washington State lost a straight-sets match to California (28-26, 25-19, 26-24) in Berkeley, California.

Haley McDonald recorded 28 assists with six digs, and Kate Sommer contributed a team-high 14 digs.

Men’s golf

Idaho’s Daniel Sutton shot a 1-under 71 in the final round to finish tied for 11th in Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate at Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso, Texas.

Ian Kim shot 2-under 70 and finished tied for 16th, while Jake Scarrow had the low round for the team on the day at 6-under 66 and tied for 29th. Rylee Iacolucci (74) finished tied for 32nd.

The Vandals finished fifth overall, behind Kansas, Saint Mary’s, Texas El Paso and Marquette.

Junior hockey

Dylan Haney had two goals and visiting Grand Forks beat Spokane 4-1 in KIJHL action at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.
