Obituary: Keefer, Morris Rae “Morrie”

Age 89

KEEFER, Morris Rae “Morrie” Went home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2015.

He was born March 29, 1926, in Spokane, the youngest of three children.

He was an adventurous lad who went on to play high school football and graduate from North Central High School.

Upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in California.

It was during this time he met his wife of 58 years, Dorothy.

In 1945 the Navy led them to Farragut Naval Station in Idaho where Morrie attended electronics school.

While Morrie was in school, Dorothy was busy too, as they gave birth to three sons in three consecutive years beginning in 1946.

After their time in Idaho, the family moved to South Dakota where Morrie worked for his father-in-law in the hardware/electrical business.

But in 1955, Morrie and family returned to Spokane where he continued using his knowledge of plumbing and electrical skills.

In 1965 Morrie joined a business partner in the ownership of a very successful electrical wholesale business.

Perhaps it was this business experience that sparked an interest for Morrie in finance.

In 1975 he became a certified financial planner for Investment Diversified Service.

For the next 17 years, Morrie developed many trusted friendships as he advised countless families on their finances and investments in Spokane.

Throughout these busy years, Morrie and Dorothy filled many week-ends with the activities of Amaranth and were awarded a 50 year service award from the organization.

Morrie was also a Shriner where the Shriner’s Hospital was near and dear to his heart.

In 2011 he was honored for 60 years of service as a Mason.

Morrie truly understood the concept of giving back to his community!

Life changed drastically when Dorothy passed in 2006, followed by the passing of his son, Morrie, in April 2008.

He married Shirley Folland and enjoyed their time of companionship until her passing in November, 2008.

Morrie is survived by his son Ron (Carolyn ) Keefer of Coeur d’Alene and son Glenn of Tacoma, Washington, and 10 grandchildren.

The family wishes to express a great appreciation for the love, care, and compassion shown to Morrie in his final years of life by Renaissance Assisted Living and Hospice of North Idaho.

The family will be gathering at a later date to celebrate Morrie’s life.

If you wish to give a memorial contribution in Morrie’s name we suggest it be given to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way Hayden, ID 83835.
