Community centers offering childcare if teachers strike on Friday

With the possibility of a teacher strike looming, several community centers and other groups are offering free or low-cost childcare on Friday. Here is a list of available programs: West Central Community Center, 1603 N Belt St.
  • Childcare available 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. for $28
  • Advance registration required; call (509) 326-9540 to register or for more information.
East Central Community Center, 500 S Stone St.
  • Free childcare available for K-6 students from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • 50 spots available on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • Program includes two snacks and lunch, gym time and some academic activities

Northeast Youth Center, 3004 E Queen Ave.
  • Childcare available for K-6 students from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. for $28
  • No limit on spots, but parents will have to register children when they drop them off. Registration should take about 15 minutes.
  • Lunch will be provided but children should eat breakfast before being dropped off.

Indian Trail Church, 9010 N Indian Trail Road
  • Free childcare available for K-6 students from 8:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
  • Advance registration required, register online here. Friday registration is now open.

Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, 1004 E 8th Ave.
  • Free emergency childcare available 24 hours per day for children ages 0-6
  • First-come, first-serve basis; call (509) 535-3155 to check availability or with questions
