Police search Spokane River for reported jumper from Riverfront Park bridge
At least one witness reported seeing a woman jump into the Spokane River from a suspension bridge in Riverfront Park on Thursday afternoon, Spokane police said.
An officer on scene said a witness saw the woman emerge from the water a couple of times after jumping. The report prompted a search that blocked traffic on both the Monroe and Post street bridges during rush hour.
The officer said a shoe was recovered. Firefighters, police and emergency personnel were scanning the areas above the lower falls and to the west of the Monroe Street bridge as dusk fell Thursday.
A portion of the bridge on Canada Island was taped off as a crime scene by officers.
