Stream on Demand: ’70s throwback ‘The Nice Guys’ hits On Demand

What’s new for home viewing on video-on-demand and Netflix, Amazon Prime and other streaming services.

The Nice Guys is a throwback to action comedies of the ’70s with tough guy Russell Crowe and soused private detective Ryan Gosling teaming up to find a kidnapped girl. Rated R. Also on DVD and Blu-ray.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” a “Snow White” prequel without Snow White, stars Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron and Jessica Chastain. PG-13 and unrated versions. Also on DVD and Blu-ray.

Also new: the biographical drama The Man Who Knew Infinity,” with Dev Patel as a visionary mathematician and Jeremy Irons as his mentor (PG-13), the comedy Maggie’s Plan with Greta Gerwig and Ethan Hawke, and the animated Ratchet & Clank (PG). All also on DVD.

Available same day as select theaters nationwide are the thrillers Blood Father with Mel Gibson (R) and The Sea of Trees with Matthew McConaughey and Naomi Watts (PG-13), and the comedy The Intervention with Melanie Lynskey (R).

Netflix

The debut seasons of the espionage series Quantico,” starring Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra as an FBI recruit, and the provocative American Crime,” starring Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton and Regina King, are new to Netflix.

More streaming TV: NCIS: Season 13 and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Season 17 and the fantasy Once Upon a Time: Season 5.”

Kid stuff: new seasons of the animated Dawn of the Croods: Season 2 and Glitter Force: Season 2.”

Movies: the post-apocalyptic survival drama The Road (2009) with Viggo Mortensen (R), the romantic drama Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) from France (NC-17, with subtitles) and the Netflix original millennial romance XOXO (2016) (not rated).

Amazon Prime Video

Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey are Elvis & Nixon (2016) in the fictional story of a real-life meeting (R).

Also new: the American Indie revenge drama Blue Ruin (2013) (R) and the end of the world in Melancholia (2011) with Kirsten Dunst (R).

Pilot Season is back. View and vote on the pilot episodes of three new comedies: Jean-Claude Van Johnson with Jean-Claude Van Damme, I Love Dick with Kathryn Hahn and Kevin Bacon, and the superhero spoof The Tick.”

Kid stuff: In The Kicks: Season 1,” a soccer-playing schoolgirl finds her place to a new school and a new team.

The documentary miniseries O.J.: Made in America looks at the trial of O.J. Simpson.

The Danish Girl (2015) stars Eddie Redmayne and earned an Oscar for co-star Alicia Vikander (R).
