Weather prompts delays at schools, airports in Washington

From staff and wire reports

Dozens of flights have been canceled at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport because of winter weather conditions.

About 15 flights from Seattle to Spokane were scheduled for Tuesday, according to the Spokane International Airport. As of about 9 a.m. only one Alaska flight from Seattle to Spokane had been canceled, and another landed in Spokane just before 9 a.m.

Alaska Airlines canceled about 35 flights from morning until about noon as a precaution. The airline said cold temperatures are creating the potential for ice at the airport and on aircraft.

Alaska said it’s issuing refunds and notifying customers of flight cancelations.

Tuesday’s weather also prompted closures and delays at a number of school districts across Eastern and Central Washington.
